Adipotide

FTPP Β· Fat-Targeted Proapoptotic Peptide Β· prohibitin-targeting peptide

A chimeric pro-apoptotic peptide targeting the vasculature of white adipose tissue. Induced ~40% body weight reduction in obese rhesus monkeys by selectively starving adipose tissue of its blood supply.

πŸ’‰ SC injection (animal research)🧊 Lyophilised: βˆ’20 Β°C. Reconstituted: use within 24 hours. Protect from light.

Mechanism of Action

Contains two functional domains: a targeting sequence (CKGGRAKDC) that homes to prohibitin on the surface of adipose blood vessel endothelium, and a pro-apoptotic domain (KLAKLAK)β‚‚ that disrupts mitochondrial membranes after internalization, triggering apoptosis in adipose vasculature and subsequent fat cell death.

Clinical Applications

  • βœ“Severe obesity unresponsive to conventional treatment (research only)
  • βœ“Visceral adiposity reduction (preclinical)
  • βœ“Metabolic syndrome research model

Dosing Protocol

Recommended Dosing

No human dosing established. Primate studies: 0.15–1 mg/kg SC daily for 4 weeks. Human trials (NCT01262664) were conducted but results not fully published. Not for clinical use.
